Barack Obama's COO to speak in Falls for International Women's Day
Betsy Myers, former chief operating officer of Barack Obama's presidential campaign will make a stop in Niagara Falls in March for a International Women's Day event hosted by the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce. (Supplied)

The former chief operating officer of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, Betsy Myers, will be in Niagara Falls in March for the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce’s 2018 International Women’s Day event on Mar. 8.

Myers will discuss important research and thinking around women in leadership, as well as explore the history of the movement for gender equality and share insights from her work with Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan and Bella Abzug.

Myers will trace her own career path and offer perspective from her experiences as a successful female leader.

The GNCC will also present its 2018 International Women’s Day Award to Mary Ann Edwards, run director for the Rankin Cancer Run.

During Edwards’ time as run director, the Rankin Cancer Run has raised $7,554,000 for cancer treatment and research in Niagara, with more than 13,000 participants taking part in 2017. 

Edwards is also the recipient of many honours, including the Queen’s Gold Jubilee Medal, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the 2003 St. Catharines Citizen of the Year, and the 2016 Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship.

Tickets are between $50 and $78 and include lunch. They can be purchased at eventbrite.ca.

There will be an exclusive pre-event reception with Myers from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., which will include a “WINspirational-style” interview with Myers, hosted by Ruth Unrau, followed by an opportunity to speak with Myers directly. Tickets to the pre-event reception are limited.
