Dear vandals:

Thank you for your help in proving exactly why we need a Pride crosswalk in our town. (“Town ‘not daunted’ by vandalism of rainbow crosswalk,” The Lake Report, June 8).

Your efforts have been widely noticed and I’m sure that even its critics can understand how real your targeted bigotry is.

Your actions are a perfect reminder for any who would doubt that this level of intolerance exists within our bucolic little village.

A cowardly act committed by children who haven’t been taught better, to be sure. But thank you for bringing the critics around.

We couldn’t have done it without you.
