Letter: At 17, family’s Westie is best companion ever
Soon-to-be 17-year-old Heid, a West Highland terrier, is described by her owner as "tough, sassy at times, and very determined" – and "the best loyal companion ever." SUPPLIED

Dear editor:

First, I would love to compliment all of you on The Lake Report. Love the stories featured and important local news.

I want to give a shout out to my West Highland terrier, Heidi, who turns 17 this year and although she lost her best friend, my doberman Romeo, she’s still a warrior and quite active.

She may well be the oldest Westie in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Born Nov. 1, 2007, in Mount Forest, Ont., she was a perfect Christmas gift and welcomed with open arms by our family. We all fell in love with her instantly.

She is incredibly smart, with a great temperament, eager to please and learn new tricks every day — including skateboarding. She is tough, sassy at times, and very determined.

Heidi has never really barked much but loved to chase squirrels and she still does that on good days.

This high-energy white fur ball has always been in great shape — loved long walks, swimming and running  These days, Heidi loves walking by the lake, which is where she can become like a puppy again.

She is enjoying every single minute of her life and is the best loyal companion ever.
