Letter: Airport expansion bad news for us and our environment
Letter to the editor. FILE

Dear editor:

After reading positions of mayorial candidates, there seems to be little to no opposition to expanding the airport. Yet, local flooding, which surely will not be the last, and climate change are issues affecting all.

Have none of the candidates considered how expansion will lower the air quality and increase noise pollution for residents (the people who elect mayors) just so some rich Americans can scoot in for a weekend?

Why does it seem that the needs of people who live here are subordinate to the people politicians desire to attract?

Development for development’s sake is something the unique agricultural area that is Niagara must consider wisely. Now if some Niagara and provincial politicians talk about recreating a passenger rail system to NOTL, I’d be on board.

F.Y.I., While I live just across the road in Port Weller East, I grew up, attended school and was employed at times in NOTL; Niagara-on-the-Lake remains very important to me.
