Dear editor:
A fundamental belief in the equality of all people is a core principle of the Baha'i faith, as indeed it is in the faiths of all people.
It is for this reason that the Baha'is of Niagara-on-the-Lake strongly support the work of the town's inclusivity committee, which earlier this year carried out a survey designed to help the town council make our community a more inclusive and welcoming one.
But surely this is really the responsibility of the citizens of this place – the place where we all live and which we all love.
We would like to join others in working to increase such a sense of inclusion with and for all, without waiting for the town council to assume this responsibility.
We want not just Niagara-on-the-Lake but all of Canada – indeed all of the world – to leave behind suspicion and fear of the “other” and the “different,” and to become a place of humble, helpful friendliness.
We welcome any opportunity to do so.
