Weekly competitions in the men’s and women’s leagues at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club have wrapped up for another season.
The nine and 18-hole women’s leagues hosted a joint step-aside scramble on their final day and the team of Michele Darling, Cathy Murray and Carole Matheson combined for a 2-over 38 to take first place.
Maria Townley, Christine Earl, Suzanne Watson and Kathy Taylor were second, also with 38.
And Diana Dimmer, Robin Foster, Sharon Allen and Marg Ketcheson finished third with 41.
As well, the leagues celebrated the winners of various trophies that were competed for over the season.
In the 18-hole league, May Chang won the Vera Derbyshire Award for golfer of the year. League members accumulate points from competitions over the season to determine the winner of the award.
Chang also won the Rossall Cup.
Gayle Tanner was the Holmwood Cup winner and Yolanda Henry took the Hunter Cup.
Cathy Murray was the Robb Cup champ and Susan Gagne was crowned the winner of the annual match play tournament.
Club champion Diana Dimmer won the Barbara Ahluwalia Cup, while Martha Cruikshank and Deborah Williams were recognized as the Yule Pairs champions.
In the nine-hole league, Jill Smethurst won the Captain’s Cup, Carole Matheson was the Member’s Cup and Joy Nelles champ, Sharron Marlow took the Carmichael Cup, and the Gretchen Ormston Award went to Sue Sherk (flight A) and Linda Williams (flight B).
During the final week of regular men’s league competition last Thursday, Stephen Warboys and Dan Regan were the top shooters, both with 1-over 37 scores.

Ricky Watson (#3), Warboys (#5), Rick Janes (#6), Stuart Young (#7) and Jacques (#9) also had birdies that won gross skins worth $20.
Net skins of $95 went to Stephen Jenkins (#1) and Greg Fedoryn (#4).
The league holds its annual banquet next week after the men endure “Magwood’s Revenge” this week, with awkward hole placements and other surprises courtesy of groundskeeper Mike Magwood and his dedicated crew.
In the Tuesday Woofs league finale, Don Allen was tops with 38. Ted Wiens took low net with 35. Eric Borrows birdied #7 to win the hidden hole prize and Martin Vagners was closest to the pin on #4.
A total of 76 players competed in the Woofs’ year-end scramble and the team of Peter Falconer, Rob Chubey, Glenn Young and Brian Heer led all contenders by shooting a phenomenal 8-under 28.
When the Woofs handed out the season’s hardware, the winners were: Mike Eagen and Richard Sammons (Legends Cup), Hansen (Woofer’s Cup), Meszaros (Top Dog) and Doug Dineley (Golden Dog).
