Letter: We should honour Chris Allen’s dedication to NOTL
Letter writer Sarah Sampson proposes naming the corner of Victoria and Queen Streets "Chris Allen Corner," a local businessman known for his dramatic horticulture floral displays in Old Town. DAVE VAN DE LAAR/FILE

The following letter was sent to Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa and Coun. Erwin Wiens. A copy was submitted to The Lake Report for publication.

This letter is to propose a special NOTL acknowledgement of Christopher (Chris) Allen.

Should anyone not know the name immediately, Chris, a lifetime resident and businessman of NOTL, is probably responsible for more summer days photos of Old Town’s Queen Street by our annual influx of tourists than anyone else. His dramatic horticulture floral displays, while not limited to his plantings on the corners of Queen and Victoria are a major contribution the NOTL’s “Prettiest town in Ontario” status.

The proposal is quite simple but quite meaningful: Naming the corner of Victoria and Queen streets “Chris Allen Corner.”

Perhaps with a framing of the sign and an engraved floral enhancement as an indication as to why this designation was given. A positive consideration would give significant reward for his past efforts and enthusiasm for future displays throughout town.

I and many other daily walkers of old town’s prettiest street support and look forward with anticipation to a positive outcome.
