Dear editor:
The Chicken Littles want everyone to believe that there will be more hotels, more density and more development in Old Town. But the reality is there really is nothing left to redevelop, so what is the problem?
The only properties that need to be demolished are all the old houses that are functionally obsolete and bad for the environment. If the new elbows-up council, which would be largely made up of left-wingers, was looking for a fight, there is none to have. The fights are over in Old Town.
Now its time to go to Glendale, which nobody cares about. There is no rabid group assigned to protect Glendale from the evil-doers, because nobody cares about Glendale. Elites do not live in Glendale — it is below them.
There are three brand-new hotels in Old Town: one just opened and is gorgeous, the other two will be open shortly and will be even more appealing.
As I drive around all of the areas that comprise NOTL in my convertible, I have to strain to find something that offends me; I can’t find anything I don’t like — nothing. I love everything, it is paradise.
Everything in NOTL is great and joyous except for one thing: the gang of a few hundred (probably no more than that) Chicken Littles and genuinely grumpy people that continue to sour the complex environment of a truly wonderful municipality.
If we could only find a place for this gang, perhaps providing them with housing at the barracks at the Commons, because that would make them happy, since they all want time to stand still and live inside old stuff, then maybe the NOTL everyone is seeking could become a reality.
We could feed them, clothe them and maybe even study them, to see if we can fix them, so that life in NOTL could be free of all the doomsayers.
The human brain is wired in favour of frequent and chronic complainers, and all of the psychology behind the SORE and NOTLRA type groups is not helpful to a prosperous and happy future for this beautiful little town.
Imagine a NOTL without whiners, complainers and all the Chicken Littles — what a wonderful place this could truly be.
But part of the fun is also guessing to see what delusion this gang of cluckers will create to be the next scary thing that will destroy the very NOTL most of us find awesome.
I can’t think of anything negative in NOTL, only this one strange thing.
