Many of us in Niagara-on-the-Lake and beyond are grieving the loss of what might be called a national treasure: Glencairn.

This grand 1830s home was featured in a number of contemporary movies. For those readers who want a look inside this once magnificent home, check out the movie “Red” on Netflix. The house is featured at about the 58-minute mark. It starts with a postcard view of the rear of the house looking down the Niagara River and shows lovely interior shots of several rooms and the grand entrance hall.

The movie stars Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Bruce Willis … who ironically arrives at the front door disguised in full firefighter bunker gear.
