The folks at Angels Rest Dog Sanctuary in Niagara-on-the-Lake are feeling thankful after receiving a $500 donation from the fire department in St. Davids to help out pups in need.
The dog sanctuary, located on Queenston Road, is run by Christine Van Moorsel, who cares for dogs with a myriad of health issues, including blindness, deafness, kidney diseases, incontinence, a missing eye or missing teeth, or that are simply getting up there in age.
Jane LaVacca, Van Moorsel’s daughter, who’s also a part of Angels Rest, says running this sanctuary has been a long-time dream of her mother’s.
“She loves animals and growing up, we always had many pets in our home,” she said via email.
Van Moorsel covers the cost of veterinarian bills, dental bills, grooming costs and other expenses for these dogs in need, LaVacca said.
“She does this work because she believes that these dogs were someone’s loved pet and need a place to live out their lives and pass away with dignity,” she said.
She said the St. Davids fire department gave this $500 donation to help Van Moorsel continue caring for these dogs and that Angels Rest is always looking for funds to support its work.
Donations can be given via e-transfer to angelsrestdogrescue@gmail.com, or by contacting Van Moorsel at 905-262-6585.
Angels Rest is a registered charity and will provide a donation receipt for any donation over $20.
