NOTL Votes 2026: Election polls open until 8 p.m., see results at community centre
Today's the day: Niagara-on-the-Lake residents have until 8 p.m. to cast their ballots in the municipal election for lord mayor, six councillors and school board trustees. Live election results will be available at the NOTL Community Centre and notl.com/elections. FILE/PAIGE SEBURN

The day is finally here: across Niagara-on-the-Lake, residents are casting their votes for the municipal election, selecting who they want to govern their community for the next four years.

Polling stations opened at 10 a.m. today and will be open until 8 p.m., Eastern Time, tonight. Five stations are open across Niagara-on-the-Lake in the five settlement areas:

Old Town: The NOTL Community Centre gymnasium, 14 Anderson Lane.

Glendale: Holiday Inn Express, Inspire Room, 524 York Rd.

Virgil: Crossroads Public School, 1350 Niagara Stone Rd.

St. Davids: St. Davids Public Schol, 1344 York Rd.

Queenston: Laura Secord House, 29 Queenston St.

This year’s election will see six councillors chosen as winners instead of eight, after the Town of NOTL decided to remove two council seats starting next term.

Here are the candidates running for lord mayor and councillor — those with “(I)” next to their name are incumbents who served 2022-2026’s council term:

Lord mayor: Vaughn Goettler, Andrea Kaiser and Erwin Wiens.

Councillor: Tim Balasiuk, Gary Burroughs (I), Adriana Cater-Vizzari (I), Nicholas Colaneri, Karen Taylor-Jones (name on ballot: Karen Jones-Taylor), Maria Mavridis (I), Steve McGuinness, Weston Miller, Rick Mills, Andrew Niven (I) and Sandra O’Connor (I).

Voters can also choose trustees appointed to three school boards in the region: the District School Board of Niagara, the Niagara Catholic District School Board and the Conseil scolaire Viamonde.

After the polls close, the auditorium at the NOTL Community Centre will stay open for members of the public want to watch the election results live as they come in.

Results will be shown on a large screen in the auditorium. Preliminary results from advance and online voting are expected to be displayed shortly after 8 p.m., with additional results shown as they’re received.

For those who can’t make it to the community centre, the results will also be posted to the Town of NOTL’s website, at notl.com/elections, and social media as they’re reported throughout the evening.

The Lake Report/Niagara Now will update its website as the results become available, including when the winner of the mayoral race is named.
