Brock’s Monument still open for visitors after scaffolding erected
Scaffolding encased in particle board has been placed at the entrance to Brock's Monument in Queenston Heights after fallen debris was noticed at the base of the tower. RICHARD WRIGHT

While Brock’s Monument’s exterior may appear closed off to the public due to some scaffolding around the front of the entrance, the historical site is still accessible to the public for the rest of the summer — with a full calendar of events in store this month.

Parks Canada installed protective scaffolding at the entrance to Brock’s Monument after staff at the historic site found fallen pieces of mortar and debris within its perimeter.

With the scaffolding installed, visitors and staff can continue to safely access the site. It is expected to remain for the rest of the visitor season while Parks Canada inspects the site.

Meanwhile, the Friends of Fort George is introducing a new event at the historic site for the rest of the season, called Tea on the Heights — a special featured presentation held every Tuesday at 11 a.m. with heritage interpreters, followed by tea and treats.

Here’s the full list of topics coming up this month for Tea on the Heights:

Aug. 6: “Weapons and warfare”
Aug. 13: “Uniforms and utilities”
Aug. 20: “Britain Rules the Lakes? Naval warfare on lakes Erie and
Ontario”
Aug. 27: “Brock’s and Austen’s favourite food: A sampling of culinary
fare from the Regency Era”

Tickets are $10 per presentation and available to purchase at friendsoffortgeorge.square.site.
