Letter: Turner Report should write about all parts of NOTL
Letter to the editor. FILE

Dear editor:

In his letter defending Mr. Turner’s columns in The Lake Report, Samuel Young asserts that “Mr. Turner is expressing the sentiments of the community as a whole” (“Turner Report represents many residents’ views” Feb. 12). Unfortunately he does not refer to any poll/polls that support this observation.

Furthermore, he fails to define “community.” The town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is comprised of a number of communities. These are Old Town, Virgil, Queenston, St. Davids, Glendale and the large expanse of rural acreage.

At the start, Mr. Turner tended to write about matters affecting all those communities (his recent column “When old is not so beautiful” is such an example).

However, when he has strayed off broad-based columns, his focus is on Old Town, where he lives.

When was the last time that he wrote a column pertaining to an issue involving only Queenston? Or, despite his interest in the value of real estate, pertaining to the value of the large number of vineyards and wineries that are for sale because many producers are losing money?

The poll that matters will occur later this year when we cast our ballots for councillors and lord mayor.
