Discussions became heated during Tuesday evening’s committee of the whole meeting as councillors discussed their course of action with the tribunal, in regards to a controversial 41-unit development at 223 and 227 Mary St.
Maj. Benjamin Geary lived in NOTL and was a part of St. Mark's Church during the last four years of his life. He was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1915 for conspicuous bravery and determination on the battlefield.
"As much as we have great options and food stores in Niagara-on-the-Lake already, we can have more," said the vice-president of Traditional Neighbourhood Developments.
“Reading that there could be an appointment, I had just emailed Gary to tell him I had been interested if that’s a path council was willing to take,” Andrew Niven said.
Local animal advocates are calling on pet owners to make sure their cats are neutered and spayed after a number of kittens were allegedly dumped in NOTL.
The three sessions will take place Oct. 28, 29 and 30, running from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Locals will have the opportunity to share what they think of the results.
"For democracy to be successful, we have to have confidence in the people we elect ... in order to gain that confidence, we have to have transparency in the decision-making process," one NOTL resident told The Lake Report.
Andrew Niven is the chair of the NOTL Chamber of Commerce and a director of marketing at Konzelmann Estate Winery. He also ran for council in 2018 unsuccessfully.
The 19-year-old male suspect remains in custody after a bail hearing that took place on Tuesday in St. Catharines. He will appear again in court on Oct. 11.
