Letter: Why is the Chamber hosting a peach festival?
Letter to the editor. FILE

Dear editor:

The Chamber really is outdoing themselves, again.

Why are they not focusing on matters like government relations, wage issues, seasonal worker programs, promoting the town to potential business opportunities and maybe even negotiating with insurance companies for group health plans for the existing businesses, the way other municipal Chambers do?

Instead, our NOTL Chamber works tirelessly on competing with St. Vincent de Paul’s charitable fundraiser for peach dollars.

How many peach pies does each consumer purchase? How would the churches that promote the strawberry and cherry farmers feel if the town imposed their energy on NOTL cherry and NOTL strawberry festivals?

Instead, help the churches promote their activities with assistance with social media lessons.

But, the Chamber is so stubborn to continue with promotional activities instead of solidly encouraging the formation of a BIA (business improvement area) like the rest of the province’s towns.

Combine Tourism NOTL with a properly established BIA, get input from others, like the Bloor-Yorkville one, and learn from them.

This would allow the Chamber to get back to the business of being a Chamber of Commerce, not a Chamber of tourism, beautification and promotions.
