Letter: Speed bumps, not cameras, are the way to go
Letter to the editor. FILE

Dear editor:

Now that speed cameras are out, we may finally get something that forces people to slow down — speed bumps.

Definitely not a tax grab. But only if they make them big enough to make a difference.

I’m talking about speed bumps that will take out your transmission and wreck your car if you don’t slow down, complete with warning signs big enough and frequent enough to keep people from saying they didn’t see them.

In Peru, they lowered the speed limit and everyone ignored it just like they do here. So, they introduced large speed bumps and voila! It works!

I’m not talking about the dinky little ones they use now in residential areas. The ones you can fly over in your car if you dare to be so obvious.

I’m talking about great, big humps that slow people down on roads that go through communities with main streets.

Perfect for the Crossroads school! Impossible not to obey.

And if some people decide to whizz around using another route, the residents of those streets will not be amused, so there eventually may be more speed bumps installed. There’s always a solution.
