Letter: It’s NOTL’s citizens who deserve more respect
Letter to the editor. FILE

Dear editor:

Our fearless Lord the Mayor has it all backwards with his comical motion titled “Elect Respect Pledge.” It is the common citizens who deserve respect and should be putting such a motion forward first (“Editorial: ‘Elect Respect’ starts at the top,” The Lake Report, Sept. 25).

The regular people, no matter how stupid or rude they may be, are fully entitled to be just that if they so choose, and should never be put into a forced setting where they feel like they must bow down to self-righteous public figures who selfishly think they are above all.

Somebody should tell this guy and any other member of council who will support this absurd motion about what it takes to be a servant of the people before making such manipulative demands.

This council also needs to recognize their collective competency level is not quite at acceptable standards regular folks would reasonably expect or respect.

Rodney Dangerfield, who also claimed to never get any respect, once said, “The way my luck is running, if I was a politician, I would be honest.”

Rodney had a sense of humour as well as a brain; that type of humble character trait combination would make a great lord mayor.

But more importantly, above all of this dorky respect baloney, there better not be a property tax increase next year due to all the senseless litigation, or else we will “call on relevant authorities to ensure the protection of elected officials who face abuse or threats.”
