Dear editor:

I would like to voice my alarm at the firing (pun intended) of chief librarian Cathy Simpson.

After rereading her op-ed and then reviewing the reasoning for the dismissal presented by library board chair Daryl Novak I must conclude that he has used her drawing reference to FAIR, a U.S. organization that promotes freedom to present ideas across the political spectrum, as an extremely weak argument.

To my mind her firing underscores the very problem facing librarians that she coherently articulated.
