What’s happening in NOTL for March break

Niagara-on-the-Lake is gearing up for a busy March break packed with a variety of activities, entertainment and special programs for all ages.

From Lego tournaments to stuffed-animal sleepovers, there’s no shortage of things to do. Here’s what’s happening around town to help you plan your break.

Each day, from March 10 to 14, there’s a special March break public skate at the Meridian Credit Union Arena in Virgil from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

A March break camp, open for full-week registration only, will be held at Centennial Arena in Virgil from March 10 to 14 and will offer activities ranging from crafts to ice skating. It’s $165.50 for NOTL residents and $183.75 for non-residents and before and after care is available.

Monday, March 10

Young Lego fans are invited to put their creativity to the test at the NOTL Public Library’s Lego tournament for ages seven to 11. It’s from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is free, just requires registration.

Reptile Kingdom is bringing its live animal experience to the NOTL library from 1 to 2:30 p.m., offering an up-close look at its collection of snakes, lizards, turtles and more. Open to all ages, the experience is free and funded by the Niagara Community Foundation Grant Program (registration required).

Tuesday, March 11

You can get creative at St. Davids Fire Station 2 for Craftivity Day, where artists and crafters of all ages can take part in a free hands-on session. Two time slots are available, one from 12 to 1 p.m. and the other from 2 to 3 p.m. for free, it just requires registration.

At Navy Hall, from 1 to 2 p.m., you can attend an afternoon tea with your little one and their favourite stuffie. For $15, the day features storytelling, a stuffie parade and treats from the “Fort George Bill of Fare” cookbook. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Wednesday, March 12

If your youngin’ (four to six years old) has a courageous stuffed animal, they can bring it to the library for a special, free story time from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., then leave it for a sleepover. The next day, pick it up and see what Mortimer the library monkey has gotten it into (registration required).

Parents, need something to do? The “Get HOOKED!” crochet group for ages 18 and above at the library lets beginners learn new stitches and techniques, while experienced crocheters can share their projects and tips. No registration required, just drop in from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, March 13

Artist and author James Paterson will be at the library for a wire art workshop and storytelling: For ages 4-6, from 11 to 11:45 a.m., 7 to 10, from 2 to 3 p.m; and 18 and above, from 5 to 7 p.m. It’s free, funded by the Niagara Community Foundation and ArtSpace106 (registration required).

Friday, March 14

A sensory-friendly “baby rave” is taking place at the library from 10 to 11 a.m., where babies, toddlers and their caregivers can enjoy music, dance and colourful lights. There’s plenty of space to explore and dance for free (registration required).

Ages seven to 13 can drop in at the library from 12 to 2 p.m. for a craft table, games, tech toys, Lego and more — including a library-wide scavenger hunt. No registration required.
