There were fur babies galore at the St. Davids Lions Club last Sunday morning, as the club’s members, Leo-Lions and dog guide owners gathered for the club’s annual dog walk to raise money for dog guides.

While the small gathering of volunteers was excited to raise money for dog guides, the dogs were the real centre of attention.

Eight-month-old miniature poodle Gabriel, eight-year-old black lab and redbone coonhound cross Lily and seven-year-old lab chihuahua mix Wyatt were at the walk — but for them, the event was more like a run.

The walk in St. Davids is part of a national fundraising campaign for the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, an organization that provides free dog guides for Canadians with disabilities.

The volunteers hope these events can bring awareness to the difficulty of finding a dog guide, both in the availability of dogs and the price of raising one.
