That time of the year has returned: The time of sweltering hot days and balmy nights, afternoons spent lounging in the park or at the beach, taking your time and enjoying everything that the season has to offer.

Summer, as always, got off to a busy start for many in Niagara-on-the-Lake, with no shortage of activities happening all across town, from the summer solstice celebration at Ryerson Park the evening of June 20 to the kickoff of the first of the summer fruit festivals, the Strawberry Festival on June 21, and everything in between.

Sunday marked the start of a heat wave that swept across southern Ontario at the top of the week, with temperatures hitting a high of 34 Celsius on Sunday and Monday and a low of 29 C on Monday.

Things cooled off during the second half of the week, with a sprinkling of rain on Wednesday morning and temperatures hitting a low of 20 C and a high of 29 C. Thursday was even cooler, hitting a low of 17 C and a high of 23 C.

Looking at the seven-day forecast, it looks like the heat is here to stay, with a high of 29 C for NOTL on Friday, followed by a weekend of more heat with a high of 27 C on Saturday and 28 C on Sunday, then, for the first week of July, the temperature expected at a high of 30 C for three out of the five weekdays, including Monday, Thursday and Friday.
