Residents will have a chance to hear from all candidates running in the upcoming municipal election.

The St. Davids Ratepayers Association is hosting an all-candidates debate on Wed., Sept. 17, at the Lions Club, where lord mayor and council candidates will discuss issues affecting the community.

Dan Segal, president of the association, said topics will include the proposed roundabout, flooding and stormwater management, the St. Davids swimming pool and recreational amenities.

“We believe this is an important opportunity for voters to engage with candidates before heading to the polls,” Segal told The Lake Report.

Vaughn Goettler, Andrea Kaiser and Erwin Wiens are running for lord mayor. The candidates for town councillor are Weston Miller, Steve McGuinness, Gary Burroughs, Sandra O’Connor, Maria Mavridis, Andrew Niven, Tim Balasiuk, Adriana Cater-Vizzari, Karen Jones-Taylor, Nicholas Colaneri and Rick Mills.

The evening will begin with questions from the ratepayers association executive team directed at mayoral and council candidates. The second half will allow attendees to ask questions.

Candidates will have roughly one minute for opening statements and one minute to answer each question.

The debate will be monitored by longtime association executive and former president Mike Pearsall.

The all-candidates debate begins at 7 p.m. at the St. Davids Lions Club. No registration is required and seating is first come, first seated.
