The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is now accepting applications to hire a senior policy planner to keep planning policies up-to-date and in line with provincial and regional guidelines.

The position offers a salary range of $97,188 to $118,100.

With one available position, applications must be submitted through a form on the town’s website at notl.com under “employment opportunities.” Resumes and cover letters will be accepted until April 28.

The role was reviewed by Kirsten McCauley, director of community and development services and approved by Bruce Zvaniga, interim chief administrative officer.

The permanent, full-time position will review and interpret all kinds of planning documents and suggest updates to the municipality’s rules when needed, working under the manager of policy and heritage planning, according to the job description.

Once hired, the senior policy planner will work in the administration building at 1593 Four Mile Creek Rd. and will lead special projects and review planning rules from the province, region and town.

The new hire will be the go-to person for making sure planning stays current and follows the right guidelines, as per the job description.

The town encourages applicants to clearly highlight skills and abilities relevant to the role, even if the applicant does not meet all traditional qualifications. Accommodations for applicants with disabilities are available upon request.

According to the job description, the ideal candidate has a degree in urban or regional planning or a directly related field, at least five years of experience — preferably in a municipal setting — has MCIP/RPP (Members of the Canadian Institute of Planners / Registered Professional Planner) designation and has strong communication and leadership skills.

The position, which is in the community and development department, needs someone who can manage projects, work well with others and handle sensitive information with tact and discretion, according to the job description.

“Your recommendations will play a key role in our municipal planning policy and implementation,” wrote the town in an April 10 Facebook post.
