For Keisha McIntosh, the tote bag painting and wine-tasting experience at Konzelmann Estate Winery on Saturday was the perfect way to start celebrating the holiday season with friends.

“We thought this would be a nice pre-kickoff to the holidays before everyone gets super busy,” said McIntosh, who attended the Nov. 16 occasion held from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. with her close-knit group.

Her favorite moment? The big reveal.

“The instructor had us put tape around the edges,” she said, describing the moment when the instructor had them then remove the tape from their designs to unveil the crisp, clean edges.

“Even though we all painted the same picture, everyone had their own way of doing it. Looking at that was amazing,” said McIntosh.

You & I Paint Inc. organized a day that combined creativity and indulgence. Included in attendees’ tickets was a curated flight of Konzelmann’s wines, with McIntosh calling them “delicious.” Her personal favourite was the winery’s refreshing peach wine.

Also included was a charcuterie spread to complement the artistic session. Tickets were $114 per person.

The intimate gathering of 10 participants followed a step-by-step painting process, led by an instructor who ensured even the most novice painters left with a beautiful piece.

“She was friendly,” said McIntosh. “Even if you have no painting experience, the way she does it is so good that you’ll be able to do it.”

You & I Paint Inc., a mobile paint and sip business founded in 2020 by sisters and co-presidents Ann Merritt and Ban Markos whose mission is to share their passion for art across Ontario, offers a variety of options for their art sessions.

“Sometimes we paint on canvases, sometimes tote bags, or even wine glasses,” she said.

They partner with venues like Konzelmann to host experiences ranging from small gatherings to workshops with up to 200 attendees.

Markos had nothing but positive things to say about the day. “It was beautiful,” she said. “There was food; there was wine; there was music; just a great time.”

Even if you’ve never picked up a paintbrush in your life, Markos said her fully guided experiences ensure participants will walk away with a stunning masterpiece nonetheless.

You & I Paint Inc. plans to continue offering monthly workshops all over at venues like Konzelmann, giving locals and visitors a chance to explore their creativity in unique settings.
