The holiday season is in full swing, and to celebrate, the Niagara-on-the-Lake Pumphouse Arts Centre is once again hosting its annual holiday market.

The annual market already kicked off its opening weekend, during the Holiday House Tour, Dec. 6 and 7, and will continue until Dec. 15, running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For Joanne Morandin, events chair of the Pumphouse, so far, this year’s market has surpassed her expectations.

“It has been better this year, I think, than in previous years,” she said. “A lot of very happy people are buying a lot of ornaments and gifts and we have sold out of our home-baked goods, which is amazing.”

For more than a decade, the Pumphouse has been a key stop for the Holiday House Tour, but this year, the market hopes to shine on its own.

It will feature a range of unique, handcrafted items — perfect for present hunters, said Rima Boles, Pumphouse director.

The market has grown in both scale and variety over the years, said Boles, with artisans showcasing everything from bath and body products to stained glass, pottery, woodwork and handmade ornaments.

A portion of the proceeds will go toward funding the Pumphouse — the not-for-profit registered charity — and its year-round programs, she said.

Boles said attendees are encouraged to bring donations for Newark Neighbours, which is working to feed local families in need during the holidays.

“We’re accepting donations for Newark Neighbours as part of giving back to the community,” she said.
