Traffic collision in Fort Erie kills 16-year-old

POLICE RELEASE: On Monday, Sept. 25th, 2017, at approximately 2:34 p.m., emergency vehicles responded to reports of a two vehicle collision that occurred in the intersection of Garrison Rd. at Helena St. in Fort Erie.

Investigators have determined a 17 year-old male from Ennismore, Ontario, was operating a 2009 Dodge Journey with five additional teenage passengers, all residents of Fort Erie.

The Dodge was traveling east on Garrision Rd. when it entered into the intersection and collided with a 2014 BMW 550i that was being driven south by a lone 63-year-old male from Niagara Falls.

The collision caused the Dodge to roll onto its roof and come to final rest within the intersection. The BMW remained on its wheels and also came to final rest in the intersection.

A 16 year-old male from Fort Erie, who was seated in the Dodge, received life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a trauma center in Western New York but died from his injuries shortly after his arrival. All others involved in this collision received minor injuries.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

Investigators are requesting that residents and businesses in the area of the intersection review any surveillance or dash camera footage that may have captured the involved vehicles approaching the intersection or the collision itself. Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact detectives at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.

This collision remains under investigation by detectives of the NRP's Collision Reconstruction Unit.
