COVID-19 reaches NOTL long-term care homes

COVID-19 has reached a Niagara-on-the-Lake's long-term care homes.

Niagara Region declared an outbreak at Niagara Long Term Care Residence, formerly Chateau Gardens, Tuesday evening.

On Jan. 1, the region also declared an outbreak at Radiant Care Pleasant Manor in Virgil.

Until then, Niagara-on-the-Lake's long-term care homes had managed to avoid COVID-19 outbreaks, despite the virus being a major problem for similar facitilies across the country.

The region, Pleasant Manor and Niagara Long Term Care Residence did not immediately respond to questions from The Lake Report.

As of Tuesday, Niagara-on-the-Lake had 14 active cases of COVID-19, with a total of 110 cases, according to public health statistics.

Originally this story said Niagara Long Term Care Home was owned by Chartwell. In fact, Chartwell sold the property in 2020.
