Canopy Growth donates $40K to heritage trail expansion

Canopy Growth has made a $40,000 donation toward development of the town’s Upper Canada Heritage Trail.

A cheque was formally presented during a small ceremony at the trail on Wednesday.

The trail rejuvenation fits with the company's core goal of “growing good together,” said Sean Webster, Canopy Growth’s vice-president of government and stakeholder relations.

“We see that in the communities that we work with in a project like this, which will increase activity and connect communities,” Webster said.

Canopy Growth, whihc has a large operation in Niagara-on-the-Lake, is a major Canadian cannabis growers, product developer and research company.

Rick Meloen, chair of the heritage trail committee, said the donation helps the development of the trail move forward.

“The support we’ve had has been tremendous.”

He hopes the next phase of the trail renovation from Charlotte Street to East and West Line will be ready by spring 2021.

“There will be no construction this year. But we’re hoping that next spring we’ll be ready to go,” he said. “And then we just keep trucking on.”
