UPDATE: One dead after serious collision in Niagara-on-the-Lake

UPDATE:

Police have confirmed two Niagara-on-the-Lake residents were involved a fatal crash Wednesday that left one person dead and another in serious condition.

A 60-year-old NOTL woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 32-year-old man remains in hospital in serious condition.

The man was driving a brown Chevrolet Caprice when he lost control off the vehicle and collided head-on with a silver Porsche being driven by the woman who died, Niagara Regional Police said.

The incident occured near Eastchester Avenue on Wednesday at about 2:50 p.m.

Police have not released the identities of either driver, however The Lake Report confirmed with family that the woman who died was Marcia Elizabeth (Liz) Hawley, a mother of three sons, grandmother to six grandchildren and the wife of NOTL developer John Hawley.

One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a collision in Niagara-on-the-Lake Wednesday.

The crash took place on Niagara Stone Road at Eastchester Avenue at about 2:50 p.m.

Niagara police, paradmedics and NOTL fire crews determined that two cars had been involved in a head on collision, said police in a news release.

“The driver of one of the cars was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the second car was transported from the scene by paramedics with critical injuries to a local hospital. The second driver was then transported to an out of region hospital by an Ornge air ambulance helicopter.”

Niagara Stone Road is closed for investigation from Stewart Road to Airport Road. Police said the road closures will likely be in effect into the evening.

Police said more details will be provided once the next of kin notifications have been completed and the matter has been investigated further by detectives.
