BREAKING NEWS: Nick Ruller named NOTL fire chief

Nick Ruller is the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake's new fire chief.

Ruller, who was deputy chief since 2017, was named acting chief after Rob Grimwood left the post this summer to “pursue other endeavours.”

The town announced Thursday morning that Ruller has accepted the job of fire chief and community emergency management co-ordinator, effective immediately.

“Nick is a great asset to the corporation and is an excellent addition to our senior management team,” Sheldon Randall, town’s interim chief administrative officer, said in a media release. “I am confident the fire department is under excellent leadership.”

Ruller first started with NOTL Fire & Emergency Services as a volunteer firefighter from 1999 to 2003. From 2001 to 2017, he was a full-time firefighter with the Toronto fire department. He returned to NOTL as a volunteer firefighter from 2014 to 2017, including two years as a lieutenant with the department.

He graduated from a public administration and governance program at Ryerson University and has a master's degree in leadership from the University of Guelph.

In addition to several National Fire Protection Association certifications, he also has a graduate certificate from the University of North Carolina in community preparedness and disaster management, the town said.
