What to expect this New Year’s in Niagara Falls

The City of Niagara Falls is excited to welcome Niagara residents, out-of-towners and tourists alike to ring in the new year in style as part of its annual New Year's Eve celebrations in Queen Victoria Park on Dec. 31.

Visitors can expect to see two spectacular fireworks displays, with the first starting at 9 p.m. followed by the finale at midnight to mark the end of 2018 and commemorate 2019.

The highly anticipated outdoor music concert returns, this year featuring an all-star Canadian lineup that includes celebrated rock artist and former lead singer of The Guess Who, Burton Cummings, along with two Juno Award-winning musical phenomena, Walk Off The Earth and the Sheepdogs.

The concert kicks off at 8 p.m. with Niagara Falls-based band and winner of the band of the year from the Niagara Music Awards, Avenue Inn, as the lead opener.

Niagara Parks is reminding concert attendees to dress warmly for weather, in layers to prepare for all types of conditions, particularly the extremities to protect hands, feet and ears.

Warm up stations will be available to the public, located on two heated WEGO buses stationed in front of the event site, across the street at Queen Victoria Place from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Niagara Parks is urging attendees to designate a meeting place should they become separated from their group at any time throughout the evening or following the end of the show.

A First Aid van will be on site on Murray Street. In the event any children get separated from their group, they will be escorted there.

Visitors planning for the event can expect several lane closures:

(Information provided by Niagara Parks in a media release)

Murray Street – Westbound lanes from Queen Victoria Park into the Fallsview tourism district will be closed to vehicles beginning at 3:00 p.m., while eastbound lanes into the Park will be closed at Skylon Driveway starting at 7:30 p.m. Both directions of Murray Hill from Fallsview Boulevard to Queen Victoria Park will be closed at 10:00 p.m.

Clifton Hill – Clifton Hill from Victoria Avenue to Falls Avenue will be closed to all vehicular traffic starting at 10:00 p.m.

Niagara Parkway/River Road – The Niagara Parkway from Clifton Hill to Fraser Hill will be closed to all vehicular traffic (including WEGO bus service) at 8:00 p.m. This closure is under the direction of Niagara Parks Police and it is possible that the Parkway could be closed earlier if necessary.

Parking and WEGO Public Bus Transportation – Niagara Parks will be offering convenient parking and public transportation options for individuals and groups wishing to attend the outdoor New Year’s Eve celebration, including:

Falls Parking Lot – Guests will be able to park their vehicles at Falls Parking lot, located directly across from the Table Rock Welcome Centre, and walk along the pedestrian pathway to the outdoor concert site (at the corner of Murray St. and Niagara Parkway). Falls Parking Lot will be open until 1:00 a.m. and fees will be $20 per vehicle. Please note that Niagara Parks’ seasonal Rapidsview Parking Lot (7651 Niagara Parkway) will not be available on New Year’s Eve.

Falls Incline Railway – The Falls Incline Railway will take guests traveling from the various parking lots, hotels, restaurants etc. located in the Fallsview tourism district into Queen Victoria Park, where they may walk along the pedestrian pathway to the concert site (at the corner of Murray St. and Niagara Parkway).
