Exploring Photos with the NOTL Museum: Gibson’s general store

This photograph, circa 1950s, shows the front door and gas pumps of George Gibson’s General Store, which was formerly located at the corner of Four Mile Creek Road and Highway 55 (where Silks Country Kitchen is today). It was one of two grocery stores in Virgil and with Gibson acting as the local postmaster for 43 years, it was also the village post office. The building was torn down in the 1970s when it the Department of Highways needed room for a road allowance. The current plaza was built shortly after.
