Ice skating is a perfect fit in a picturesque town like Niagara-on-the-Lake and there’s no shortage of opportunities to lace up your skates. Parks Canada has partnered with Vintage Hotels once again to bring the Vintage – Parks Canada skating rink to Fort George National Historic Site this year.

Five chillers below the ice keeps the surface frozen up to 15 degrees Celsius. Fire pits, twinkle lights and Parks Canada’s Red Chairs transform the space into a winter wonderland.

Fort George Garrison Christmas

On Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 15 from 12 to 4 p.m., traditions of the 19th century come to life at the fort. Crafts, activities and family fun can be had while sipping on hot drinks and tasting historic treats. The site will be festive, decorated in traditional holiday greenery for the weekend.

Regency Skate

On Saturday Jan. 4, from 1 to 5 p.m., visitors dress in their early 1800s “regency best,” including tailcoats, bonnets, collard shirts, waist coats and more, for an evening of elegance. There will be special activities held inside the fort and on the rink and chances at winning prizes.

Family and evening skating

Skate rentals will be available during family and evening skate.

Friday – 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Saturday – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Sunday – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Monday to Thursday – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Friday – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fort George National Historic Site is open from Dec. 1 to March 31 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.

Regular admission rates apply and youth 17 and under are free.
