Niagara Falls will light up purple and yellow in honour of Kobe Bryant on Feb. 24

Niagara Falls will be lit up purple and yellow on Monday, Feb. 24 from 9 to 9:30 p.m., in honour of Los Angeles Lakers basketball star Kobe Bryant.

Bryant died alongside his 13-year old daughter Gianna Bryant and six others in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26 – the group was on their way to a basketball tournament at Bryant’s Mamba Sport’s Academy in Thousand Oaks, California.

The date of the scheduled illumination, 2/24, has sentimental significance – the numbers are a combination of Gianna’s and Kobe’s jersey numbers.

Special illumination requests are reviewed and approved by the Niagara Falls Illumination Board.
