Part of Concession 7 Road is closed until mid-November as work gets underway on the new Modero housing development in Glendale.
The closure, which started Monday, is for a portion of Concession 7 Road between York and Queenston roads. For five weeks, no traffic will be allowed through this part of the road except for emergency vehicles, says the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
A traffic management and detour plan is in place for drivers to navigate around the construction area. The town encourages everyone to follow posted construction signs and allow for extra travel time.
The town says this closure is meant to facilitate servicing and road construction work part of the yet-to-be-completed Modero Estates development, approved in 2024. The developer’s contractor, Trenchline & Roads, is carrying out this fall’s work.
The town notes the schedule for this construction work may be adjusted due to weather conditions, site requirements or other unexpected circumstances, and that it will update residents on its website and through social media on any major changes to the timeline, traffic management measures or road access arrangements.
Modero Estates is set to be a mixed-use development, roughly 15 hectares large, with 389 homes, including 55 single-family units, 128 on-street townhouses, 178 block townhouses and 28 units above commercial spaces.
While the developer, Marz Homes, hasn’t shared when the project will be complete, it’s working on building a new public park for the development, for which construction may start in spring next year.
