A senior working on his own tractor in the Gales parking lot in Niagara-on-the-Lake was accidentally run over Friday afternoon and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening and non-life-altering injuries, police say.
Niagara Regional Police were called to the scene just after 1:30 p.m. Sept. 4, Const. Jessica Martin told The Lake Report. Police have ruled out the possibility that someone was criminally responsible for the act and are not conducting an investigation.
Martin said the man, 68, had been working on the tractor and got it running, but it was not in gear.
“He basically ran himself over with his own tractor,” she said.
Police believe the tractor rolled over him and that he was not pinned underneath it. Martin said police had no further update on his condition.
Police tape was put up to secure the scene in case the incident proved serious and evidence needed to be preserved.
The Ministry of Labour did not need to be notified because it was not a workplace accident, Martin said.
