Letter: Residents’ voices were heard on the cell tower project
Don Dinnin, left, and Catherine Cornell standing in what would be the exact location for the proposed Signum Wireless cellphone tower in Nelson Park would've been installed. Cornell and Dinnin say they want to thank the town and its staff for listening to their concerns about the project. DANIEL SMEENK

Dear editor:

Over the last month, the Ricardo Street residents at King’s Point condominium and the Greystones townhouses have responded to a surprise proposal from Signum Wireless to erect an 18-metre (60-foot) cell tower at the entrance to Nelson Park, just 31 metres from the nearest residences.

Throughout the required community consultation process, we kept the Town planning staff, as well as the mayor and councillors, informed of our concerns about this inappropriate location.

The town planning department gave us the welcome news that Signum Wireless had withdrawn its application.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the town staff, mayor, and councillors for listening, asking questions and responding to our concerns.

Our town staff, mayor and council sometimes face criticism from the community, but in this instance, they showed responsiveness and support. We are grateful for their support and thank them.
