Not your typical smoke-shop; Choom Cannabis – set to open by the end of April in the Niagara Square Plaza in Niagara Falls – aims to provide a clean and classy cannabis retail experience.

The store will be owned by Lisa Bigioni, business woman from Toronto, who applied for the store and partnered with Choom Cannabis, under the Forbes Group.

Michael Forbes, CEO and owner of the Forbes Group, said in an email response that, waiting to see how the licensing will roll out, he’s confident that Choom will have a very strong retail presence in Ontario and the rest of Canada.

Residents have until March 19 to submit comments to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, which will be taken into consideration for the final licensing decision.

Forbes said the company has been working with the city of Niagara Falls, the landlord of the property and the AGCO to abide by all the regulations and procedures. “We are working as hard as possible to assist Lisa Bigioni in opening her store in the time frame set out by the AGCO.”

Choom has 50 locations in various stages of licensing and construction across Canada, Forbes said.

“We are assisting Lisa in opening a state of the art, very clean and classy store from an award-winning designer to service the community in a kind, efficient and responsible manner.”

On the company’s website, Choom is said to be inspired by the ‘Choom Gang’ – a group of friends in the 70s in Honolulu “who loved to smoke weed – or as they called it, choom.”

The company claim to offer the best varieties sourced from Health Canada approved licensed producers.

Forbes said he is “very excited” to assist Bigioni in providing support in retail cannabis under the Choom brand.

“As a retailer myself in the pharmacy business and practicing pharmacist, I am excited to set the bar very high in retailing cannabis to the public in a safe and efficient way. Treating people with compassion and respect are core values associated with Choom.”

He said educating customers on cannabis is another core value, something that is lacking in the industry. “We plan to change that.”
