The Niagara-on-the-Lake Soccer Club celebrated the association’s many coaches and volunteers with a special dinner at Barrelhead at Pillitteri Estates Winery.
It’s the club’s way to thank volunteers “for the incredible time, energy and dedication” they contribute, said president Julia Friesen.
“We truly couldn’t do it without our amazing volunteers and it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate another great season of soccer together.”
The club also welcomed special guest Jim Douglas, former captain of Canada’s men’s national team.
He represented Canada internationally for many years and “has made significant contributions to the growth of soccer in Canada, both on and off the field,” Friesen said.
“We were fortunate to have him join us to share his experiences, insights and passion for the game,” she added.
Douglas has a strong NOTL connection as his granddaughter Stella plays on the club’s Timbits Green team.
