Dear editor:
The subject-referenced article appeared in the Aug. 28 issue of this newspaper (“Letter: Life in NOTL shouldn’t feel like an amusement park“).
As a resident taxpayer of NOTL, it’s easy to empathize with Mr. Werner’s sentiments, of which I and likely the majority of our residents agree.
He calls on the community to respond by “Sharing your concerns with your councillor.”
Mr. Werner, surely you are patently aware that such an exercise, like thousands in the past, is another exercise in futility.
For example, in the same Aug. 28 news issue, Michael Clark is proposing “a referendum on unhosted rentals.”
We have all seen this rodeo dozens of times before. Richard Harley, the editor of this newspaper, has penned more than one editorial on this same topic, All falling on deaf ears.
There has not been a Lake Report issue since its inception, where numerous letters and presentations to council have been reported, expressing our residents’ frustrations and concerns. The norm being: They have fallen on deaf ears.
In summation, I have stated with regularity that: This council marches to its own drummer — to hell with their constituents’ opinions, which oftimes have been supported by professional, well-documented solutions.
Why do you feel this time will be different?
Samuel A. Young
