COVID-19: Letter: Visitors ignored town’s pleas to stay home

Dear editor:

It’s 3:45 p.m. Sunday and I just got off the Niagara-on-the-Lake webcam, curious to see what Queen Street looked like.

To my surprise it resembled a day in mid-July.

There were as many cars as I could count driving the main drag and more parked along the street. I understood these spots were designated “no parking” during this crisis.

Apparently Lord Mayor Betty Disero’s plea fell on deaf ears despite the fact it has been stressed how serious the threat to our health is.

I noticed cars in a couple of our neighbourhood Airbnbs and traffic on Niagara Stone Road was at mid-summer volume.

All our vendors are closed for a reason!  Maybe they aren’t operating in order to keep people from coming to NOTL and to protect themselves  from getting the virus.

It’s sad that people feel they are entitled despite repeated requests for compliance.

In the midst of a pandemic, so I’m led to believe, why would anyone not consider the need for everyone to stay at home?

If you don't care about yourself think about others who do care.

No sense … no feeling.
