Police arrested one person this afternoon after gunshots were reported at a home in Niagara-on-the-Lake near the border of St. Catharines.
Niagara Regional Police say officers responded to a call about gunfire near a residence on Queenston Street, east of the Homer Bridge, around 3:25 p.m. this Thursday.
Specialized units, including the Emergency Task Unit, K9 Unit and Crisis Negotiation Unit, were deployed to the scene. Officers surrounded the property as a precaution.
One person exited the home and was taken into custody at about 4:39 p.m.
Police say no injuries were reported and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Investigators do not believe the incident was random.
Roads in the area were reopened shortly after 5 p.m.
Detectives from the 2 District office in Niagara Falls have taken over the investigation, which remains active. A search warrant is expected to be executed at the property.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Niagara.
An update is expected Friday morning.
