No open-air fires allowed in NOTL, until futher notice
The ban, covers all open-air burning: cooking fires, consumer and display-type fireworks and any other type of outdoor burning. Barbecues and other gas appliances are exempt. UNSPLASH/ROYA ANN MILLER

Citing dry weather and air quality concerns, Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire and Emergency Services has issued an open-air burn ban, effective immediately until further notice.

The ban, announced this morning, covers all open-air burning — including cooking fires, consumer and display-type fireworks and any other type of outdoor burning.

Barbecues and other gas appliances are exempt.

Anyone who does not comply could face charges under the Ontario Fire Code and fees for fire department response.

Once the burn ban is lifted, the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake will notify the public through its website and social media.

Residents with questions can call the town at 905-468-3266.
