An adult man is dead following a head-on collision Monday morning in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Niagara Regional Police say officers were notified at approximately 9:32 a.m. April 13 following multiple 911 calls from witnesses and passersby about a crash on Niagara Stone Road and “were on scene very shortly after being dispatched.” The crash involved two vehicles — one SUV and one cube van or panel truck. The two drivers were alone in their vehicles, with no passengers.
“Tragically, one male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said, adding that “the driver of a second vehicle was transported by Niagara Emergency Medical Services to a local hospital with minor injuries.”
“We won’t be releasing the identities of anyone involved, however the deceased is an adult male.”
Officers responded to the scene in co-ordination with emergency crews, including Niagara Emergency Medical Services and Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire and Emergency Services. The police collision reconstruction unit has taken over the investigation.
“It is too early to say a cause of the accident,” police said.
Niagara Stone Road is closed between Concession 7 and Airport roads and, as of 2:30 p.m. April 13, is expected to remain closed for several hours while police continue its investigation.
Police ask anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam or video footage, to contact them at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009259.
