The Family and Children’s Services Niagara Foundation is serving up some refreshingly good news for children in the region.

Its Mountainview LemonAID Day fundraiser raised more than $92,000 this year for the agency’s summer camp program, enough to give more than 400 children an estimated 600 weeks of summer camp.

Teams of families with young children set up lemonade stands across Niagara on June 7 at local businesses, community and sporting events and the homes of participating families, with the proceeds going to help children attend day camps in the area and overnight camps outside the region.

“All kids deserve to have the chance to enjoy summer and experience everything summer camp has to offer,” said Rhianon Burkholder, foundation board chair, in a media release.

“We’re grateful to everyone who participated and donated so kids served by FACS would have an equitable opportunity to go to summer camp.”

Anna Bozza, the foundation’s CEO, said it’s also tailored the camp experiences it provides the children it serves based on the interests they have and hobbies they enjoy.

“Children have attended dance lessons, horse camp, or a variety of other specialized camps,” Bozza said. “Each year, we receive so many notes and drawings from children telling us about the wonderful summer they had, which is so heartwarming.”

“We are so happy to be a part of this initiative and are proud to do our part in making a meaningful impact on the community and lives of children,” said Mark Basciano, president of Mountainview Building Group.

Thanks to Mountainview, the event’s main sponsor, families can participate for free, as Mountainview provides participants with everything they need to host a lemonade stand.

The foundation highlighted six-year-old Xavier as this year’s top fundraiser: his team’s stand, the Citrus Twists, raised more than $4,200.
