A 65-year-old Welland man has died after his car left the road and struck a tree Saturday in Wainfleet.

Police and emergency vehicles attended the scene at around 10:30 a.m. and determined the lone male driver had lost control of his vehicle and entered a ditch and an adjacent soybean field.

The vehicle continued through the field before colliding with a tree and stopping.

Police say the driver was pronounced dead on scene.

The collision remains under investigation and any witnesses are asked to contact detectives at 905- 688-4111, extension 5500.
