Niagara Regional Police are seeking the public’s help in locating an armed and dangerous man after he allegedly assaulted and stabbed a Welland resident at their home on Maureen Ave. near Donna Marie Dr. on Friday.

Police said in a media release that suspect Jason C. Smith, 43, of Port Colborne, went to the home around 3 a.m. on Friday “for the purposes of confronting the home owner regarding a personal dispute.”

The suspect fled after cutting the resident with “an edged weapon” during a physical alteration that happened just after the door was answered.

Police are seeking a warrant of arrest for Smith for aggravated assault; Police said they believe this to have been a “targeted attack.”

The NRP is asking anyone who sees the suspect or the pickup truck believed to have been involved – a black 2009 Dodge RAM – to call police right away.
