The Niagara Region is giving away bags of compost in exchange for donations of non-perishable food items or cash between May 7 to 12.

Residents can receive up to three bags of compost per vehicle per day, while quantities last.

Each bag of compost is either 20 or 25 liters in size.

Donations will support Fort Erie COPE, Grimsby Benevolent Fund, Goodwill Niagara and Project Share.

Compost can be picked up at the following locations during regular business hours:

Bridge Street landfill
1300 Bridge St, Fort Erie

Niagara Road 12 landfill
Concession Road 7, West Lincoln

Humberstone landfill
700 Humberstone Rd., Welland

Recycling Centre
5030 Montrose Rd., Niagara Falls
