St. Catharines blooming pink and white

The city of St. Catharines' annual flower pot program starts Tuesday, put on by the city's green advisory committee.

The initiative lets local businesses rent flowers and other plants to set outside of their storefront area and offices for the summer season.

“Here's something that puts a little bit of the Garden City right at your front door,” said Ilyse Norton, development horticultural technician, in the release.

“These flower pots are a great way to help liven up our neighbourhoods, make them more beautiful and inviting and show off our community pride.”

The flowers and plants are professionally arranged and planted in 27-inch pots.

Rental fees range from $83.55 for one pot to $271.05 for four, and businesses are responsible for watering and maintaining them throughout the season.

Deadline for orders is May 25 at 4 p.m.
