Council has unanimously voted to restrict parking on both sides of East and West Line between Lakeshore and Townline roads, after a request from the Region of Niagara.

The region is implementing a parking ban on Lakeshore Road near East and West Line “due to road safety concerns caused by motorists parking on the shoulders to access the Quiet Acres and Niagara Quality Fruit stands,” according to a staff report on the matter.

The region told the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake the change may result in motorists parking along East and West Line in order to visit the fruit stands, which both have on-site parking for customers.

Safety concerns regarding cars intruding onto the roadway and poor visibility at the intersection of East and West Line and Lakeshore Road were cited as concerns in the report.

The town will be installing 10 “no parking” signs along East and West Line at an estimated total cost of $1,250, according to the report.
